Women's Breakfast: Update

There will be no Women's Breakfast in February. We usually meet on the second Saturday of the month, but we've decided to skip this month because in February that day falls on Valentine's Day. Aviator's Restaurant's reopening is delayed because of problems that need to be addressed, so we won't be going back there until at least April. Stay tuned for an announcement of the venue for March.

Tour of the Sanctuary

Join us for our next tour on Saturday, February 14 at 12:00 Noon on the steps of the entrance to the sanctuary. Dr. Elliot Jones, our music director, leads a tour of the sanctuary that includes the building architecture, explaining the history of the various stained glass windows, and offers a history of our organ and plays on it to show it's capabilities. Invite your friends to this lovely tour as it is a great way to introduce them to our historic building and church.

Food Pantry Donations

We are collecting food donated on Sunday, February 15. On the third Sunday of every month, we collect non-perishable food pantry donations and travel-sized toiletries for the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership’s Food Closet and WIND Youth Services, and then dedicate them during the worship service. We'll then deliver these items during the week. For more information, please contact the church office.

Ash Wednesday, February 18

The pastor will be distributing ashes for Ash Wednesday on Wednesday, February 18 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM outside the church. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season and reminds us that "from dust we were created and to dust we shall return." There will be no evening Ash Wednesday service.

Bible Study

Bible study will next meet on Wednesday evening, January 21, at 6:30 PM in the church parlor. We meet to review and discuss the previous Sunday's sermon and then follow a discussion guide based on it. It's a fun time with refreshments and friendship-making. All are welcome to attend, regardless of your knowledge of the Bible.

The following resources will be available after the Sunday service. Click on the appropriate link. Check back here if they aren't yet available.

Signup Sheets

Have you been interested in volunteering at the church? One way to do that is to volunteer to be a Sunday reader, an usher, a teller, or to bring treats and food for Fellowship Hour. You are invited to see where you’d like to help out and sign up. Look for the signup sheets in Fellowship Hall on Sundays after church. Your help and contribution makes Pioneer shine!

Choir Rehearsal

Do you enjoy singing? We'd love to have you in our church choir. The Pioneer Choir presents music of a great variety of styles – Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, traditional spirituals, brand-new choral anthems, and more. Rehearsals are at 6:30 on Thursdays in our choir room, and Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM in the sanctuary. New singers are welcome anytime. Music-reading skills are helpful, but not required.

Bell Choir Rehearsal

The Pioneer Bells rehearsal happens every Tuesday at 6:30 in our choir room and presents some of the rich bell choir repertoire in worship services – and occasionally in front of the church, serenading Sutter’s Fort Park!

Thank You!

A special thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to make the Ecumenical Day of Prayer event such a wonderful success and blessed event. Thanks to Vi for the lovely fellowship meal after church on Sunday, January 25 and February 1.

Capital Chorale

The Capital Chorale and Orchestra will present a Spring Show on Friday, April 17. The show is Requiem by Gabriel Faurè and Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein.

If you are interested in singing in the Chorale, contact Dr. Elliot Jones at musicdirector@pioneerucc.org

AA Recovery Support

AA currently meets throughout the week in our church. They meet every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in Fellowship Hall or the Parlor.

Compassion Fund

On the last Sunday of the month, we collect an offering on Sunday that supports our local mission efforts. We provide the unhoused sack lunches, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and hand-warmers. We also offer no-interest loans to church members and friends and family of church members.

Potluck on the First Sundays

We'll have our Potluck luncheon on Sunday, March 1 1, after church. On the first Sunday of each month, we host a potluck luncheon after church in Fellowship Hall. You are invited to bring your favorite dish to feed about 25-30 folks who stay after the service. We also have a few unhoused folks who join us. You don't need to sign up for anything specific, just bring what you like to cook and we'll eat it!

Join us on Facebook!

You are invited to join us on our Facebook Group that has updated information, photos, and items of interest throughout the week. Stay informed with what's happening at Pioneer by following our group. We'd love to have you! Follow this link to join up!

Beginning again in September, you are invited to join us every Wednesday at 6:30 PM for Bible Study. Our Bible study explores the sermon from the preceding Sunday, delving into its deeper meanings and discussing your questions. If you are interested in this, please get in touch with Pastor Bo at pastorbo@pioneerucc.org and let him know of your interest. Thanks!

We help prepare you for leadership by serving on various committees and boards of the church. We have open positions in ministry, planning, outreach, and Christian education. If you are interested in honing your leadership skills, or developing them, please speak with the Pastor.
